=========================================================================== Nib Noise Volume 1 Number 1 =========================================================================== Welcome to the premiere edition of Nib Noise. This newsletter is a joint effort of Richard Binder and Don Fluckinger. We hope you'll enjoy reading this newsletter, and we also hope you'll choose to subscribe to it--it's free. We plan to mail out a new issue once a month. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Broad Strokes" by Richard Binder --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sheaffer introduced the Sentinel in the 1940s as one of the models on which the Triumph nib appeared. In 1949, the Sentinel became a Touchdown model. Then, in 1953, it became a Snorkel and was joined by the very similar Clipper. These pens are attractive and reliable, and they don't yet cost a fortune. You can find them inexpensively on eBay, and pen dealers sell fully-restored specimens for a little more--either way, they are a solid bargain in a hobby where prices are hitting four and five figures. It was later divided and incorporated into two articles that deal with the pens in more depth. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Extra Fine Points" by Don Fluckinger --------------------------------------------------------------------------- One one hand, it's a maddening process, trying to date pens. And I don't mean in the Justin-Timberlake-and-Britney-Spears sense, either. I mean, when was the pen I am holding in my hand actually made? On the other hand, if pen companies stuck to a model-year system like Ford and Chevy, it would take three-fourths of the fun out of collecting, depriving us of the thrill of the chase. I talked with Allan Fuld, David Isaacson, and the country's foremost Coke bottle collector about the ins and outs of compiling information about the stuff we collect.
