======================================================================== Nib Noise Volume 1 Number 5 ======================================================================== Welcome to Nib Noise. This newsletter is a joint effort of Richard Binder and Don Fluckinger. We hope you'll enjoy reading this month's issue. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** I'm Going to the Washington, D.C., Supershow! *** by Richard Binder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ In case you were wondering (or even if you weren't), the answer is yes! I will be at the Washington, D.C., show this month. Together with Don Fluckinger, I will have a table at the show. We will have a few pens, post cards, anatomy posters, vintage pen ads, and handmade Northern Woods pen rests for sale. I will have a supply of custom-ground Pelikan M200 nibs in crisp and cusive italic, crisp and cursive left- and right-footed oblique, and stub, for sale for $35.00 each. These nibs fit M200, M2520, M400, and M600 pens. I will have demonstrator pens available for you to test nibs and decide your preference. After you've purchased your choice, you can get instant gratification by dropping over to the Swisher Pens table, where Chuck and Chun will be offering for sale Pelikan pens that will accept these nibs. I will also be regrinding nibs for walk-up customers, for $30.00 each ($40.00 for extra fine). I can grind any of the above shapes, with modi- fications particularly suited to your unique way of holding a pen. Most dramatic results can be obtained if I start from a broad nib, but I need at least a medium nib to produce a fine italic or oblique. (I can also regrind a standard nib to make it smaller, such as converting a medium to a fine.) I will have a small supply of Sheaffer Fashion C/C pens with broad nibs that I can grind for you if you forget to bring one of your own pens. These pens, custom ground, will sell for $40.00. I look forward to seeing familiar faces and to meeting some new ones. See you in about a week! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Broad Strokes" by Richard Binder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Most pen collectors, as they acquire and use new pens, discover an interest in nibs that are designed to produce exaggerated line varia- tion: italics, obliques, and stubs, and also flexible nibs. These kinds of nibs are frequently called “specialty nibs”... But please, indulge me once more, and let me tell you about my good friend Mario Henri Chakkour. Like the Mia Hamm tale, this one also involves a Sheaffer...
