======================================================================== Nib Noise Volume 1 Number 8 ======================================================================== Welcome to Nib Noise. This newsletter is a joint effort of Richard Binder and Don Fluckinger. We hope you'll enjoy reading this month's issue. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** See You at the Show *** by Richard Binder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This issue of Nib Noise is a day early because I won't be here tomorrow. I'm looking forward to being part of the Ohio Pen Show, on November 2 and 3. My table will be in the lobby, where you can't miss me! I will be regrinding nibs for walk-up clients. I'll be accepting pens for repair and restoration; these will be coming home with me, as I won't be doing general repairs at the show. I'll also have a good supply of my custom-ground Pelikan M200 nibs, with demonstrator pens available. For the oblique freak in you, I will have a very small number of 30-degree left-footed obliques in crisp and cursive varieties. These nibs are primarily for left-handed underwriters who do not like a right-footed oblique, but right-handers and left-handed over- writers can also have fun with them. For an illustrative writing sample (right-handed, of course), visit my Sales Lobby page and click on the 30-degree nib description: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=sale_txt.htm There'll be some Pelikan M200 pens for sale with my nibs, courtesy of Swisher Pens. And don't forget my box of vintage pen advertisements or the great fountain-pen friendly pads that Jimmy Tom crafts for me! If you buy a set of all eight pad styles, I'll throw in a leather pad folio for only $5.00 more. I hope to see many of my old clients -- and make some new friends -- at the show. Even if it's just for a moment on your way in to pillage all the other dealers' tables, please come up and introduce yourself so I can put faces to all those names I see on the Internet! In case you haven't visited the show's Web site, here's the link: http://www.ohiopenshow.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Broad Strokes" by Richard Binder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The alimentary tract of a fountain pen comprises three organs: the ink reservoir, the nib, and the feed by which these two are connected so that ink may pass from the one to the other. The release of ink by a fountain pen has been referred to as a "controlled leak," and it is the feed that exercises that control. One of the hobby's favorite sons is Howard Levy of Bexley Pens in Columbus, and this is his story. There are a few new pens in the bunch, and they'll appear on the site after the show. If they don't go to other homes, that is. ======================================================================== If you received this newsletter from Richard Binder, you are a subscriber.
