======================================================================== Nib Noise Volume 1 Number 10 ======================================================================== Welcome to Nib Noise. This newsletter is a joint effort of Richard Binder and Don Fluckinger. We hope you'll enjoy reading this month's issue. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Upcoming: the Philadelphia Fountain Pen Show ------------------------------------------------------------------------ In two weeks, plus a day or so, we'll be heading off to Philadelphia for the annual Philadelphia Fountain Pen Show at the Wyndham Franklin Plaza Hotel. I'll have a few vintage pens, a stock of my preground custom Pelikan M200 nibs, and a few other things. And, as usual, I'll be regrinding nibs for walk-up clients. If you have other repairs you'd like me to do, I'll be happy to receive your pens to bring home to my studio for repair after the show. The show will be open to the public from 10:00 to 5:00 on Saturday, January 18, and from 10:00 to 4:00 on Sunday, January 19. Early buyers can check in at 10:00 on Friday, and at 8:00 on Saturday and Sunday. See you in Philly! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Broad Strokes" by Richard Binder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you were a good little boy or girl last year, Santa may have brought you a new pen or two. Taking care of your pens is easy, but it doesn't happen by magic. I've put together a page of tips. Read the article: http://www.richardspens.com/?care= Every pen collector has to start somewhere. For your New Year's enter- tainment, here's a little essay about where I got my start. Read the article: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=writings.htm&refp=starter_pen.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Extra Fine Points" by Don Fluckinger ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Last month, Don did the unthinkable and ventured into the world of vintage third-tier fountain pens. Surprisingly, he lived to tell about the experience--and reports the results in this space. Second of a two- part exploration. Read the article: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=extrafine.htm&refp=xf0103.htm And, in case you hadn't noticed, Don has added a suggestion for further reading to each of his Extra Fine Points articles. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pens for Sale ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've put up a few newly-restored vintage pens for sale. This month's pick is a humorous epistolary novel called _You Know Me Al: A Busher's Letters,_ by Ring Lardner: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=acc_txt.htm#readerscorner My monthly pick also appears as a link on my welcome page. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ For a limited time... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ My studio needed a calendar. Maybe yours does, too. There just aren't a lot of fountain-pen calendars available, so I've used images of pens from my collection to make a custom calendar that features a different vintage Parker pen each month: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=acc_txt.htm&refp=cal2003.htm ======================================================================== If you received this newsletter from Richard Binder, you are a subscriber.
