======================================================================== Nib Noise Volume 2 Number 2 ======================================================================== Welcome to Nib Noise. This newsletter is a joint effort of Richard Binder and Don Fluckinger. We hope you'll enjoy reading this month's issue. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Show Tunes *** by Richard Binder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ For the second month in a row, I'm going to spend the weekend regrinding and adjusting nibs for walk-up clients at a show far away from my New Hampshire studio. This month I'm headed for the Chicago Pen Show, one of the oldest, biggest, and best shows in the USA. It runs all weekend, and on Sunday it'll be open to the general public for a piddling $5.00 entrance fee. Come on out to the Westin-O'Hare and spend some time with hundreds of your pen-collecting colleagues. As always, I'll bring along a few pens and pen-friendly pads to sell, as well as a stock of my preground Pelikan M200 italics, obliques, stubs, and more. The featured item is the popular new ItaliFine, which writes as a 0.9-mm cursive italic when you hold the pen normally and switches to a fine when you turn the pen upside down. I'll also have a small assortment of miscellaneous styles that aren't listed on my Web site, including exactly one *flexible* 0.9-mm cursive italic nib. I will be introducing Set 2 of my fountain pen anatomy posters, this set featuring Sheaffer's Snorkel and the Parker "51" (aerometric version). These posters are 8-1/2"x11", professionally printed on high-gloss heavy paper, and they're great for framing. Check them out on my Web site: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=acc_txt.htm&refp=posters.htm Set 1 is also available, showing a typical lever filler and the Parker Vacumatic. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Broad Strokes" by Richard Binder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Having a pen whose age corresponds with the year when you were born (or married, or divirced, or...) can be an attractive and interesting way to add a special pen to your collection. Find out what great pens were available in your special year! Read the article: http://www.richardspens.com/?misc=bday_pen ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Extra Fine Points" by Don Fluckinger ------------------------------------------------------------------------ A lot of pen people discovered the beauty of the Parker "51" a half century after it first came out. Here, we chat with Louis Kaplan, someone who’s enjoyed the "51" from the start. Read the article: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=extrafine.htm&refp=xf0503.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pens for Sale ------------------------------------------------------------------------ No new pens for sale are listed this month because I'm right now working at the Chicago Pen Show. When I get home, I'll be able to sort out what I have. And next month, for a change, I won't be going to a show! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ In the Reader's Corner ------------------------------------------------------------------------ My site's Reader's Corner features a monthly pick, a book that I like and think that you might enjoy, too. This month's pick is sort of a paean to the wonders of spring and flowers and the beauty they bring: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=acc_txt.htm#readerscorner My monthly pick also appears as a link on my welcome page. ======================================================================== If you received this newsletter from Richard Binder, you are a subscriber.
