======================================================================== Nib Noise Volume 2 Number 8 ======================================================================== Welcome to Nib Noise. This newsletter is a joint effort of Richard Binder and Don Fluckinger. We hope you'll enjoy reading this month's issue. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** The Show Must Go on! *** by Richard Binder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We're only a week away from the Ohio Pen Show. Sited this year at a new hotel, the Wyndham Dublin, the show opens on Thursday, November 6, and runs through the weekend. This is one of the real biggies, and with its traditional high proportion of vintage dealers, it may be the premier show for vintage pen collectors. I'll be there on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, to regrind and adjust nibs for walk-up clients. As always, I'll be bringing a few pens, some accessories, and a nice selection of my preground nibs to sell. If you haven't yet made your plans to attend the show, check it out here: http://www.ohiopenshow.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** The Holiday Season Is Definitely Beginning! *** by Richard Binder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I know the holidays are coming because my Christmas tree guy called today to assure me that he has a lovely 10-footer for me. For you, I've been adding gifts and other cool items to my selection of pen-related accessories. To help you decorate your home or the homes of your pen pals, I've designed a pair of ceramic ornaments that you can hang on a tree or a wall or as a pendant under your mistletoe kissing ball. They feature fountain pens, of course. I still have a very limited supply of Northern Woods Pen Rests in the Standard and Deco models. When these are gone, there will be no more of these models. And although I have no Classic models right now, I'm gearing up to make some; I hope to get them done later this month. My new 2004 calendar, featuring 12 different Sheaffer pens, will make a useful addition to the walls of your den or library. After the success of last year's calendar I've enhanced this one with some writing-related quotations to make the calendar even more interesting and useful. For hardy souls who want to smooth their own nibs, I now offer a set of smoothing films. Made for the fiber-optics industry, these films are superfine and finer yet. Check out these and all of my other accessories on my Web site: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=acc_txt.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Broad Strokes" by Richard Binder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ More than a year ago I published an article about how to survive your first pen show. It was so well received that I'm back for a repeat engagement. This time, I explore ways you can prepare in detail to be sure you find just the pens you want at the next show. Read the article: http://www.richardspens.com/?shows=showprep ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Extra Fine Points" by Don Fluckinger ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Do you have a creative pen-related curse you've wished on someone you don't particularly like? Here's your chance to vent.
