======================================================================== Nib Noise Volume 6 Number 7 ======================================================================== Welcome to Nib Noise. This newsletter is a joint effort of Richard Binder and Don Fluckinger. We hope you'll enjoy reading this month's issue. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS NEWSLETTER! For comments or questions, send email to: richard@richardspens.com To subscribe or unsubscribe, please visit the Free Email Newsletter page on my site: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=nibnoise.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** We're Late! We're late for a Very Important Date! *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ No, we're not the White Rabbit, but we are a day late this month. It's a plot, I tell ya! (Actually, it's because Barbara and I just got home today from the NY/NJ Pen Show in Elizabeth, Noo Joisey, and we didn't want to send out Nib Noise when we weren't in a position to respond to your questions in a timely manner. We're back, and so's Nib Noise.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Go West, Young Man! *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Or, if you're to the left of the Big Muddy or close enough that you might as well be), Go East! I refer to the Ohio Pen Show, coming up in just over a month. You can't reserve too early, and if you delay too long you won't be able to reserve at all. Mark your calendar now, for the weekend of November 2, 3, and 4. Terry and Sonya Mawhorter are waiting for you, and Barbara and I will be there, too. Ohio is one of the premier shows, and Terry has already been teasing me by publishing info about some of the auction lots. (You *are* planning to go to the auction, aren't you? Pen show auctions are too much fun to miss, even if you don't take any pens away with you!) If you plan to come and haven't ever been to a show before, you might want to read my article on Your First Pen Show: http://www.richardspens.com/?shows/firstshow For more information, visit the show's Web site: http://www.ohiopenshow.com/ Barbara and I will be there for the whole official show. PLEASE READ OUR "TABLE TALK" FAQ TO LEARN HOW WE OPERATE AT A SHOW: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=tabletalk.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Bexley in the News -- Old Is New! *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We have managed to stumble across a few NOS Bexley pens that I think are pretty special. We have a very few blue Equipoises and a slightly larger number (but still very few) of the Cable Twist in Blue Pearl. Check out these golden oldies on our Bexley page: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=sales/newp_bex.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Changes at Conway Stewart *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Conway Stewart has just sent us a new price list, effective November 1. Prices will be rising, and the resin Duro is being removed from the list of standard models. The sterling Duro (see below) will still be available. Several new models are being added to the list, and we will bring some of them to our Conway Stewart page. (Remember, you can order any currently available Conway Stewart pen from us, even if it's not shown on our page.) http://www.richardspens.com/?page=sales/newp_cny.htm Current prices will be honored on all orders we receive by October 20. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Special eBay Auction *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We have a Conway Stewart sterling Duro in Flame Red. This is a gorgeous pen, with brilliant red sleeving over solid sterling silver, and the furniture is all solid sterling, not brass with silver plating that can wear away. As with all Conway Stewart pens, the fit and finish are impeccable -- the barrel seats into the cap with that solid "thunk" that you expect from the doors of a fine British luxury automobile. This pen's fine nib is tuned to write very nicely. To give everybody a fair chance at this desirable special pen, we are auctioning it off on eBay. The auction will run for seven days. Follow this link: http://tinyurl.com/2a3luv ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** We Still Have a Very Few of the Lovely Pilot Sesenta LE *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Pilot Sesenta is a decimo-sized Capless (Vanishing Point), but it's not just any ol' Vanishing Point -- not even any ol' decimo! Clients who have bought the Sesenta have said that it's a gorgeous pen and that my photos, as good as I try to make them, don't do it justice. This is a limited 400-pen edition that is not officially being offered in the U.S.A., and we were able to snag only 20 pens (of which almost all are now gone). Learn about the Sesenta, and snag one before they're completely gone: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=sales/newp_nam.htm#sesenta ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** The Staccato Is Here, and Boy Is It Nice! *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Taccia/Binder Staccato SE is SOLD OUT! Thanks to all who purchased this great pen! We now have the standard Taccia Staccato in stock in a variety of resin colors. In keeping with our impression of this pen's high level of fit and finish, we've chosen to offer it only with 18K gold nibs in your choice of F, M, or B. For more information, visit our Taccia page: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=sales/newp_tac.htm#staccato ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Come to the Richard's Pens Pen Show *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Clients keep telling us how much they enjoy our monthly vintage pen tray. The October tray, with 20 new pens, is ready for you. Check out our vintage pen tray for yourself: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=sales/vint_txt.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Don's Boxes -- Economical and Attractive Cigar Box Pen Chests *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Don has put together a new selection of his economical and artistic pen storage boxes, and there are a couple of wicked cool boxes there -- including one you're not likely ever to see again. Check out his classy product here: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=accessories/dons_boxes.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Visit the Reader's Corner *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ No pen collector should be without a good reference library. When I’m asked what reference books a new (or not so new) collector should have, I tend to recommend the same ones over and over again. Our Reader's Corner features the books I have in my own library and use daily. http://www.richardspens.com/?page=books.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Pens That Write Right! *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Unless otherwise requested at the time of sale, I fill-test each new pen at no extra charge before shipment, aligning and smoothing the nib and ensuring that it has good flow. If you order a new pen with a customized nib, I will modify the nib and ship the pen immediately instead of putting it into my regular queue. Remember, we are authorized retailers for Bexley, Conway Stewart, Namiki and Pilot, Pelikan, Signum, and Taccia. We don't always have a complete line up on the site, but we can get anything our manufacturers offer -- if you don't see it, just ask! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Richard's Wallpaper Shop *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ September was a truly hectic month, and I have to confess that there are no new computer desktop wallpapers this time. But there's still a nice selection available, and if you don't have them all I invite you to make another visit to Richard's Wallpaper Shop: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=wallpapers.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Broad Strokes" by Richard Binder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This month, with the craziness around here, I've decided to put up four more of my Pen Doctor articles from Pentrace. They're not next-week new, but they're still good useful hands-on information: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=ref.htm#pendoctor ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Extra Fine Points" by Don Fluckinger ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Don poses the question "Will today's pens be collectible in 2050?" to three hobby experts -- and their answers may surprise you. http://www.richardspens.com/?page=extrafine/xf0710.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** It's Almost That Time Again *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Just a little advance notice for subscribers: next month (November 1) we will be putting up a nice selection of clearance pens, many of them low priced, for the holiday gift-giving season. But in the meantime, don't miss out on this month's pens, the ones that are too good to give away (except to that very special someone). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Subscribe to our RSS Feed *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ RSS means Really Simple Syndication.
