======================================================================== Nib Noise Volume 6 Number 8 ======================================================================== Welcome to Nib Noise. This newsletter is a joint effort of Richard Binder and Don Fluckinger. We hope you'll enjoy reading this month's issue. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS NEWSLETTER! Barbara and I will be on hand for all the festivities -- where will YOU be? With festivities beginning on Thursday, a full-day pre-show Friday, and two full public days on the weekend, this year's show is guaranteed to be better than ever. As always, there will be exciting new products and more vintage pens than you can take in; this show is one of the grand old vintage festivals, and it's really not to be missed. For more information, visit the show's Web site: http://www.ohiopenshow.com/ If this will be your first-ever pen show, be sure to read my pen show virgin's guide: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=ref_info/firstshow.htm We'll have a selection of pens from the companies we represent: Bexley, Conway Stewart, Filcao, Pelikan, Platinum, and Signum. Most of the pens we have at shows are offered at DISCOUNTED SHOW PRICES, with their nibs checked and smoothed -- and you save shipping costs, too. Talk about INSTANT GRATIFICATION! I'll have a stock of my preground Pelikan M200 and Pilot Vanishint Point specialty nibs. If you don't have a pen to go with your new nib, Barbara will be happy to fit your nib with a new M200 or Vanishing Point pen body in your choice of colors. As always, I'll be regrinding and tweaking nibs while you wait. We use a list, like your favorite restaurant, so you can enjoy the rest of the show while you await your turn. Bring a pen or two, and share a little time with friends at my table while I jazz up your writing experience. PLEASE READ OUR "TABLE TALK" FAQ TO LEARN HOW WE OPERATE AT A SHOW: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=tabletalk.htm If you have pens that need repairs other than nib work, we'll be happy to save you some shipping costs by collecting them at the show and bringing them home to my studio -- or you can hand them to Ron Zorn of Main Street Pens, one of the best repair guys I know, and have them fixed right there. Ron's table will be right next to ours. We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones. We hope to see you there. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Changes at Conway Stewart *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Conway Stewart has reorganized its core lineup. Gone is the resin Duro, and new are the Nelson and the Wellington. We have likewise reorganized our Conway Stewart page, making it a little easier (we hope) to understand. Remember, you can still order the resin Duro as well as the Dinkie, Dandy, and 58 -- they're just bespoke pens now, meaning that you have complete freedom in your choice of colors! Our prices for these pens reflect the bespoke charge; what you see is what you'll pay. http://www.richardspens.com/?page=sales/newp_cny.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** We Still Have a Very Few of the Lovely Pilot Sesenta LE *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Pilot Sesenta is a decimo-sized Capless (Vanishing Point), but it's not just any ol' Vanishing Point -- not even any ol' decimo! Clients who have bought the Sesenta have said that it's a gorgeous pen and that my photos, as good as I try to make them, don't do it justice. This is a limited 400-pen edition that is not officially being offered in the U.S.A., and we were able to snag only 20 pens (of which almost all are now gone). Learn about the Sesenta, and snag one before they're completely gone: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=sales/newp_nam.htm#sesenta ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Come to the Richard's Pens Pen Show *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Clients keep telling us how much they enjoy our monthly vintage pen tray. The November tray, with 20 new pens, is ready for you. This month's lineup is extraordinarily exciting -- don't miss it! Check out our vintage pen tray for yourself: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=sales/vint_txt.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Don's Cigar Boxes Spread Holiday Cheer *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This month's cigar box pen chest assortment features a great variety of shapes, sizes, and finishes, just right for Papa bear's large Churchill- sized pens, Baby bear's 51s and Targas, and Mama bear's Dinkies, Tuck- aways, and ring tops. Doesn't the pen collector you love (even if it's little ole you) deserve a nice little present this time of year? Don't be caught empty-handed at your holiday gathering, be it to celebrate Thanksgiving, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Christmas, the BCS Championship Game, or whatever: These pen chests make a one-of-a-kind gift that the recip- ient won't soon forget, and they sell fast -- so grab yours while the grabbing's good. http://www.richardspens.com/?page=accessories/dons_boxes.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Visit the Reader's Corner *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ David Moak's magnificent reference volume "Mabie in America" has made the jump from CD-ROM to hardback book. If you don't have the CD-ROM, you need the book. If you do have the CD-ROM, you still need the book to cover all the additions and a few minor corrections. http://www.richardspens.com/?page=books.htm#potm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Pens That Write Right! *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Unless otherwise requested at the time of sale, I fill-test each new pen at no extra charge before shipment, aligning and smoothing the nib and ensuring that it has good flow. If you order a new pen with a customized nib, I will modify the nib and ship the pen immediately instead of putting it into my regular queue. Remember, we are authorized retailers for Bexley, Conway Stewart, Namiki and Pilot, Pelikan, Signum, and Taccia. We don't always have a complete line up on the site, but we can get anything our manufacturers offer -- if you don't see it, just ask! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Richard's Wallpaper Shop *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This month, Richard's Wallpaper Shop features the October calendar page, a tribute to Sputnik I, the first artificial satellite to orbit our world, together with the astonishingly ergonomic Parafernalia Revolution fountain pen: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=wallpapers.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Broad Strokes" by Richard Binder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This month, to add to the pre-show buzz for the Ohio Pen Show, I've added a primer on pen show auctions to my existing series of pen show guides. Terry Mawhorter and his minions do righteous auctions, and you really oughtn't miss this great show feature: http://www.richardspens.com/?shows=auction ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Extra Fine Points" by Don Fluckinger ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Will Bexleys be a sought-after collector pen a couple generations down the line? Don thinks so, because they reflect Howard Levy's passion for vintage pens. http://www.richardspens.com/?page=extrafine/xf0711.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Subscribe to our RSS Feed *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ RSS means Really Simple Syndication.
