======================================================================== Nib Noise * Volume 7 Number 11 * February 2009 ======================================================================== Welcome to Nib Noise. This e-newsletter is a joint effort of Richard Binder and Don Fluckinger. We hope you'll enjoy reading this month's issue. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS NEWSLETTER! But not all dogs have loving families. There are some who still can only hope that charity will help them to find good homes, and this is where you come in. We have a special tray of lightly used (and in some cases new) pens that a client has generously donated to raise funds for the adoption of retired racing greyhounds. These are excellent pens at good prices, and the warm glow you'll get will keep you feeling good while you use them. Please visit our Bargains and Special Pens page to choose your "doggie" pens: http://www.richardspens.com/?newp=spl ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Magnum = Bigger. Yeah, Baby! *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Introduced at the Philadelphia Pen Show, Bexley's new Poseidon Magnum is big brother to Poseidon. Longer, elegantly tapered, fitted with double cap bands, Poseidon Magnum takes Bexley's burly favorite to a whole new level. Big hands? You *need* this pen. For more info, check it out here: http://www.richardspens.com/?newp=bex+magnum ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Bexley's 2009 Owner's Club Pen Is Now Available for Everyone *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The "exclusive" period has ended, and Bexley is now making available the remaining supply of 2009 Owner's Club pens to everyone. You need not be a previous Bexley owner to snag one (or two, or three) of these ebonite gems for your own hand. If you aren't already acquainted with the luxury of modern American-made pens designed to be written with, not just locked in a case, your purchase of an Owner's Club pen will entitle you to become a registered owner, and that means you can be first in line for the 2010 Owner's Club pens. For more info, check it out at Bexley's site: http://www.bexleypen.com/Products/ownersclub.htm Then come back and order your pen here: http://www.richardspens.com/?newp=bex+oc2009 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Don's Cigar Box Pen Chests; Black Is the New Blue *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ For those who have bought Don's cigar box pen chests in the past, first: Thank you! Don is permanently changing the inside color from blue to black -- so if having another blue box is important to you, please note that we have the last remaining blue-lined boxes on the page this month. Oonce they are gone, there will be no more. The black is pretty sexy, too, we think, and this month's selection will be your first crack at those. http://www.richardspens.com/?acc=dons_boxes ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** The East Coast February Pen Show *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Our Pen Show tray features a couple of unusual items, including a fairly uncommon ballpoint (heresy!) that I found at the Philadelphia Pen Show last month and a large, elegant Parker Duofold. Don't miss out on these goodies -- or the other cool treats awaiting your delectation! http://www.richardspens.com/?newp= ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** The 2009 Richard's Pens Calendar Is Still Available! *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ But it won't be available next month, so if you're waiting for Godot you should reconsider your strategy. Our all-new 2009 calendar is available in our CafePress shop. At 11"17", it's plenty big enough to see from across the room -- and there's room to write some actual useful reminders into each day's space. The illustrations feature twelve different vintage and modern pens larger than life, styled to look like still-life photos. Here's a link to our calendar page, with more information and a direct one-click link to purchase your own copy. http://www.richardspens.com/?acc=calendar And while you're visiting our CafePress shop, check out some of the other items we offer there. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Broad Strokes" by Richard Binder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The historical period I find probably the most interesting is the years of World War II. Some pretty cool pens came out of that time, including the Waterman Commando. Everybody's heard about the Commando, sure, but I'll bet there are things you didn't know about it. Until now. http://www.richardspens.com/?prof=commando ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Extra Fine Points" by Don Fluckinger ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Many vintage pen collectors lament that they were born too late, wishing they could jump into the Wayback Machine and return to the glory days of their particular favorite pen to experience their own glory days. Don explores the relative merits of several possible destination decades. http://www.richardspens.com/?xf=0902 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Richard's Wallpaper Shop News *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Having made the photo for Bexley's 2009 Owner's Club Edition, I figured why not? So I've made it into a wallpaper for you. And just for fun I've also wallpaperized the Wellington page from our 2008 calendar (August) and the Doctor and Nurse page from this year's calendar (last month): http://www.richardspens.com/?page=wallpapers ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Pens That Write Right! *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Unless otherwise requested at the time of sale, I tune each new pen or nib at no extra charge before shipment. I fill the pen with Waterman Blue-Black ink and write with it on paper from the same fountain pen friendly pads we sell, adjusting as necessary to bring it up to the RichardsPens.com "factory" standard for smoothness and flow. If you order a new pen with a customized nib, I will modify the nib (for an extra charge) and ship the pen immediately instead of putting it into my regular queue. Remember, we are authorized retailers for Aurora, Bexley, Classic Pens Inc., Conway Stewart, Namiki and Pilot, and Pelikan. We don't always have a complete line up on the site, but we can get anything our manufacturers offer -- if you don't see it, just ask! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Subscribe to our RSS Feed *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ RSS means Really Simple Syndication.
