======================================================================== Nib Noise * Volume 8 Number 4 * July 2009 ======================================================================== Welcome to Nib Noise. At the Triangle Pen Show last month, Howard Levy showed a case of prototypes he's been working on. Called the Bexley Imperial, this new pen has the classic cigar shape so often associated with higher-priced Japanese pens -- but these prototypes are acrylic resin instead of urushi, so you'll never have to worry about fading from everyday exposure to light. A big pen at 6" capped and 7-11/32" posted, the Imperial not only looks expensive, it also feel substantial without needing a chunk of brass tubing stuck inside to add weight. We have only five of these pens. They are likely to be gone almost overnight, so you should check them out now: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=whatsnew ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Don's Cigar Box Pen Chests: Bigger 'n' Better *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Don has been playing with some new boxes this month, and that means you get to snake some remarkably cool ones -- including a couple of SLR Titam maduro double-deckers. http://www.richardspens.com/?acc=dons_boxes ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** It's Summertime at the RichardsPens.com Vintage Pen Show *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Declare your independence from the ordinary with one of our July pens. Cool pens, cool nibs, crete your own fireworks! http://www.richardspens.com/?pens=vint ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** We Now Have Section Pliers -- the Good Ones! *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you take pens apart, you can do it the wrong way or the right way. The wrong way is to grab a pair of J. Random Pliers and hack away. The right way is to pick up a pair -- or two pairs -- of section pliers. These are the ones we've been using at the Nashua Pen Spa since before the turn of the century. http://www.richardspens.com/?acc=section_pliers ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Micro-Mesh 3-Way Buff Sticks! *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ After you put your pen back together, shine it up! For surface restoration and smoothing nibs, fine abrasives are essential. Add controllability, and you have Micro-Mesh Buff Sticks. In the Nashua Pen Spa, we go through these Micro-Mesh buff sticks "like there's no tomorrow." http://www.richardspens.com/?acc=buffsticks ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** For a Limited Time... GET ORANGE! *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Only until supplies run out, as an authorized Field Notes retailer, we have graph-ruled Field Notes with brilliant orange covers to complement your orange pens — or maybe just to attract attention! (Inside, they’re the same great Field Notes you already love.) When they’re sold out, they’re really sold out, so don’t be left out! You don’t have to be from Syracuse to love these pads, so GET ORANGE! http://www.richardspens.com/?acc=field_notes ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Broad Strokes" by Richard Binder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ It's been a while since I've done any Pen Doctor columns, and I figure it's about time to revive the feature. This month I've put up four new Pen Doctor pages for your delectation: http://www.richardspens.com/?refp=+pendoctor BONUS FEATURE: I've standardized notes, cautions, and warnings through the site to make it easier for you to keep track of the things you ought to know, the things you'd better know, and the things that can kill you if you don't know them. Check out the "What do these symbols mean?" box on the Reference Pages index page: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=refp ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Extra Fine Points" by Don Fluckinger ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Getting bored just poring over the same old pens in your collection? Don's got some ideas to get the blood rushing again. http://www.richardspens.com/?xf=0907 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Pens That Write Right! *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Unless otherwise requested at the time of sale, We tune each new pen or nib at no extra charge before shipment. we fill the pen with Waterman Blue-Black ink and write with it on paper from the same fountain pen friendly pads we sell, adjusting as necessary to bring it up to the RichardsPens.com "factory" standard for smoothness and flow. If you order a new pen with a customized nib, I will modify the nib (for an extra charge) and ship the pen immediately instead of putting it into my regular queue. Remember, we are authorized retailers for Aurora, Bexley, Classic Pens Inc., Conway Stewart, Namiki and Pilot, and Pelikan. We don't always have a complete line up on the site, but we can get anything our manufacturers offer -- if you don't see it, just ask! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Subscribe to our RSS Feed *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ RSS means Really Simple Syndication.
