======================================================================== Nib Noise * Volume 12 Number 2 * May 2013 ======================================================================== Welcome to Nib Noise. We hope you'll enjoy reading this month's issue. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS NEWSLETTER! If you can find vintage cabinets like those today, they're either prohibitively expensive or reduced to a near shambles by age and wear. So we are offering superb reproductions. Better made than the originals, our cabinets are handmade in the U.S.A. of solid poplar, stained a rich walnut brown, and finished with a durable urethane varnish. Each cabinet holds 48 pens in slotted trays that lift off the hinged back panel for adding or removing pens. Check them out, and make your choice! http://www.richardspens.com/?acc=edelstein ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Go South, Young Man and.or Woman, to North Carolina *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ In only 29 days we'll be taking off for the Tenth Annual Triangle Pen Show in Cary, North Carolina (within spittin' distance of Raleigh). The Steep Canyon Rangers won't be there to sing "Carolina Home," but it's lookin' to be a great show anyway. The show begins Thursday, May 31, at the truly deluxe Embassy Suites, and it runs through Sunday, June 3rd. Public days are Friday afternoon (starting at 1 p.m), and Saturday, and Sunday. As always with a Terry Mawhorter show, there will be a Saturday auction, and with some really luscious properties being offered this is one not to miss. And there'll be a special auction Thursday, too. You really shouldn't miss this weekend in Carolina. If you plan to come and haven't ever been to a show before, you might want to read my article on Your First Pen Show: http://www.richardspens.com/?shows=firstshow For more information, visit the show's Web site: http://www.raleighpenshow.com/ Barbara and I will have a droolworthy selection of new pens from Bexley, Edison, Gate City Pen, Namiki and Pilot, Onoto, and Pelikan. I'll be bent over my Dremel, regrinding and tweaking nibs. Bring a pen or two, and share some chatter at my table while I jazz up your writing experience. REMINDER: We bring most of our normal stock to shows, but we can't bring everything. If there's one special pen (or other item) you've just gotta have, please feel free to send us an email to ask us to be sure we bring it for you. And if you want to use a credit card, we'll provide a way for you to make your purchase online before the show. That way you won't have to hold out that extra bit of cash while you're strolling the aisles drooling over the juicy delights on other tables! We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones. We hope to see you there. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- *** Shipping Schedule for May *** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- as noted above, we're going to the Raleigh Pen Show over the first weekend of June. During May, we will be shipping on the following dates: Wednesday, May 1 Saturday, May 4 Wednesday, May 8 Saturday, May 11 Wednesday, May 15 Saturday, May 18 Wednesday, May 22 Saturday, May 15 Tuesday, May 28 We now return you to your regularly scheduled Nib Noise. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Master Classes This Summer at the Nashua Pen Spa *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ All slots for the June master class on nib repair and customization have been filled. (That class starts only a few days after we get home from Raleigh, so don't lose track if you're a registered participant.) Reminder: We'll be working on nibs that fit Bexley pens, and Bexley has kindly donated the pens we'll put 'em in. We still have spaces open for the general repair and restoration class that will run 4 days, July 15-18. The student fee for this class is $1000. Students will learn basic and advanced restoration techniques, repair of lever, Vacumatic, and Snorkel fillers, and nib removal, installation, and adjustment. I will also demonstrate how to repair the seals in a plunger filler and the Conklin Nozac. If you're interested in attending this class, please contact us this month. (We need to begin making the arrangements.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** New Old Friends *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We've been waiting on tenterhooks for the return of the Namiki Falcon. It's back, although our stock is still pretty slim. http://www.richardspens.com/?pens=nam+falcon ALso, to be sure we won't run short of a couple great inexpensive Birds, we've made special purchases of the Pelikan M200 clear demonstrator and the Pelikan M205 Duo Highlighter. http://www.richardspens.com/?pens=pel+m200 http://www.richardspens.com/?pens=pel+m205 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** There Are Still Some Great Pens on the Gang of Five Tray *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Not all of the pens I scored at Ohio last November are sold. There are still some very exciting and rare pens on our Gang of Five tray. Don't forget to check it out and check out with at least one of these truly wonderful pens. http://www.richardspens.com/?pens=gang ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** You Just May Like This Tray *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ It's May, so I've dug around a little and come up with eleven, count 'em ELEVEN, flexies for this month's tray. Eight are full flex, and three are semiflex. I'm betting there's something there that you don't want to do without. http://www.richardspens.com/?pens=tray ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** "Broad Strokes" *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fountain pens need ink. Even in the 19th century, pen makers were seeking that other ink supply, one that could be more convenient and, with luck, less messy than partially disassembling a pen to fill it with an eyedropper. http://www.richardspens.com/?fillers=cart_pens ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Pens That Write Right! *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Unless otherwise requested at the time of sale, we tune each new pen or nib at no extra charge before shipment. We fill the pen with Waterman Blue-Black ink and write with it on paper from the same fountain pen friendly pads we sell, adjusting as necessary to bring it up to the RichardsPens.com "factory" standard for smoothness and flow. If you order a new pen with a customized nib, I will modify the nib (for an extra charge) and ship the pen immediately instead of putting it into my regular queue. Remember, we are authorized retailers for Bexley, Edison, Gate City Pen, Namiki and Pilot, Onoto, and Pelikan. We don't always have a complete line up on the site, but we can get anything our manufacturers offer -- if you don't see it, just ask! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Follow Us on the Internet with RSS, Facebook, and Twitter *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Follow us on the Internet by subscribing to our RSS feed.
