|The READYFILL Pen||Nib Units|
Founded in 2010, the Gate City Pen Company of Nashua, New Hampshire, makes fountain pens. Good pens, designed at the Nashua Pen Spa and built one at a time the old way, by real people, not churned out hundreds per hour by a machine. Gate City Pen is all about fountain pens that you can love using. Please note that these pens are tributes to the pens of a past era, made to look — and work — like the pens of old. As such, they have vintage-style imprints on their caps or barrels and breather holes in their caps.
Gate City Pens feature extra fine, fine, medium, or broad JoWo nibs in either steel or 18K gold. Made in Germany, these nibs are among the finest in the world.Pens That Write Right!
Our nibs are NOT like other dealers’ nibs! Unless otherwise requested, Richard tests and adjusts every nib we sell. To make sure you get the nib size you want, read this.Looking for a Custom Nib?
Ordering a custom nib is easy — read this pop-up “comic strip” to see just how easy it is! If you order a new pen with a customized nib, I will modify the nib for an extra charge, and in most cases we will ship the pen without extra delay.
[ Our return policy ]The READYFILL Pen
With many self-filling pens, you have to take something off to fill them. A blind cap, a barrel, no matter what it is, you might mislay it, or it might just roll off the desk when you set it down. Not so with the sleeve-filling READYFYLL Pen (sometimes called a thumb-filler). it’s based on a 1915 patent by Henry R. Coit, whose Ready Fill Pen Company sold pens of the same design a hundred years ago. Just rotate the sleeve half a turn, squeeze the filler with a thumb or a finger, rotate the sleeve back, and that’s it. There’s nothing to take off and lose. You can even fill the READYFILL while its cap is posted, and if the cap is off you can set the pen down without worrying where it might end up. With its hexagonal sleeve. the READYFILL won’t roll anywhere! At 5" capped and 65/8" posted, the READYFILL is a compact, slender pen that posts to a comfortably long profile — and the sleeve fits comfortably in the web of your hand. (More size info here.) Oh, one last period feature: if you prefer a clipless pen, you can slip the READYFILL’s clip right off.

Because Gate City pens have interchangeable nibs, some owners find it convenient to purchase extra nibs to fit their pens. If you have never tried installing or removing a nib, rest assured that you can do it. Check out our nib swapping instructions.
As with the pens we sell, unless otherwise requested at the time of sale, we tune each new nib at no extra charge before shipment. We install the nib in a pen body, fill the pen with Waterman Blue-Black ink, and write with it on paper from the same fountain pen friendly pads we sell, adjusting as necessary to bring it up to the RichardsPens.com “factory” standard for smoothness and flow. Our clients have named this procedure “Binderizing.” The result is an adjusted nib, not a customized one.
If you are unsure about stroke widths, please check our stroke width chart for illustrations of stroke sizes that our nibs produce. To do this, right-click the image at the right (Macintosh users control-click) to download the chart in PDF format (for Adobe Reader). The chart is designed to print on U.S. letter-size paper (81/2"×11"), and it should also print well on A4 paper. After you have printed the chart, find some fountain pen friendly paper and make strokes on it with your own pens for comparison.
|Please note: nib units for the Belmont Pen are not standard cartridge/converter units. They will not work properly in cartridge/converter pens, nor will cartridge/converter units work properly in Belmont Pens.|
